This is a bad road to be on, because not only are you heading the wrong way, but you are ssure that you are not. There is a trick to not letting yourself become prey to these outside influences. The trick is to be able to tell the difference between a feeling in your gut, and the sound of the Holy Spirit.
1 Peter 2:5-6
As you come to him, the living Stone rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Gut Trusting
Ever had that gut feeling? Trust your gut, or so the saying goes. But following your gut, much like following your heart is mostly about following your emotions. It is very easily manipulated. Whether the Devil made you do it or you did it to yourself, you are heading down the wrong path.
That gut feeling is sometimes a big burrito. It will pass. It's a little like walking in the woods. Most people have one leg stronger than the other. Given a chance they will walk in a circle, curving slightly with each step. A compass always points north. Following a compass instead of our instinct will lead us on the correct path.

The Holy Spirit is our magnetic field that will lead our moral compass if we give it a chance.
